ANYMORE FOR ANYMORE: THE RONNIE LANE STORY
BY CAROLINE & DAVID STAFFORD - PUBLISHED on 17TH AUGUST
08 August 2023
Caroline and David Stafford's highly anticipated biography of Small Faces/Faces musician, Ronnie Lane, is published in hardback by Omnibus Press on 17th August. This from the review by Max Decharne in The Spectator: "Caroline and David Stafford display the same dry wit and careful research that informed their previous excellent biographies of figures such as Lionel Bart or Kenny Everett. They trace Ronnie’s life from East End beginnings to stardom in the mid-1960s beat boom, and the decades-long progress of the hereditary multiple sclerosis which eventually claimed him." .......... Ronnie Lane’s story is that of a working-class kid who started his musical career busking a ukulele at the age of eight. As a young man he signed with legendary manager Don Arden, who paid him in paisley shirts. He then enjoyed a phenomenal 17 consecutive Top 40 singles, womanising and LSD, and fell under the spell of a mystic before joining forces with Rod Stewart. Ronnie was later diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, moved to America, went broke and died far too young. Drawing on extensive research and interviews with friends and family, Caroline and David Stafford unearth the truth and talent of the man behind the music.

The Eternal City is a place of vengeance, duplicity and betrayal that has even infected the City of God itself, the Vatican. In a war that is everywhere, not even neutrals, can escape the surrounding darkness.
5-star review for DOCTOR WHO: PLANET OF THE OOD
NOVELISATION BY KEITH TEMPLE PUBLISHED TODAY
13 July 2023
Happy Publication Day to Keith Temple! His Target novelisation of his classic DOCTOR WHO episode "Planet of the Ood" is published today (13th July) by BBC Books and available in all good bookstores. And the first of what we hope will be many 5-star reviews - "the perfect Target book. Highly recommended" - is in from Critical Popcorn: THE PLANET OF THE OOD With the Doctor and Donna returning to our screens later this year, it’s great to see another Series 4 episode get the Target books treatment. In a series filled with great stories, it’s easy to forget just how good Planet of the Ood is, making this expanded novelisation from TV scribe Keith Temple a welcome addition to fans’ bookshelves. This new Target novelisation of Planet of the Ood delves into the psyche of the Ood themselves, making them even more sympathetic and exploring their telepathic abilities further. Keith Temple expands on the world and characters, including the backstory of Ood Operations (with a sneaky reference to The Robots of Death), as well as Halpen, Solana and the sales reps. Some scenes deleted from the TV episode are incorporated, with the Doctor and Donna confronting Halpen earlier on (previously only seen in the Deleted Scenes on the DVD), while an entirely new scene towards the end at Ood conversion adds some more closure to the narrative. In many ways, Planet of the Ood is the perfect Target book: taking an already great story and expanding it in interesting ways into a new format, not limited by budget or the series’ 45-minute time-slot. Highly recommended. PM https://criticalpopcorn.com/2023/07/06/book-review-doctor-who-the-target-collection-2023/
