KATHY by STEVE CASEY
STAGE PLAY PREMIERE
24 February 2022
Steve Casey's original stage play, KATHY, premieres at 7.30pm on Friday 11th March at Redbridge Drama Centre (Churchfields,South Woodford E18 2RB) Tickets are available on-line here: https://visionrcl.org.uk/event/kathy/ It’s the mid 1960s and East End singer Kathy Kirby is a huge star. Dyed blonde hair and red lip gloss wrapped in a fur coat, she is Britain’s answer to Marilyn Monroe. Having starred in her own TV series and now living in a Mayfair flat, she’s come a long way from humble beginnings as an Ilford Ursuline schoolgirl with a big voice and big dreams. But with her lifestyle and career choices tightly controlled by her mentor, manager and lover, Bert Ambrose, tensions are starting to build and claustrophobia is setting in. And having developed an unexpected and intense attraction to fellow performer, Bruce Forsyth, Kathy now faces a life and career defining crossroads. Kathy reimagines the inspiring life of one of Redbridge’s favourite daughters, Kathy Kirby. This new original play dramatizes key events in Kathy’s life and asks questions about personal compromise, love, obligation and the price of fame. A remarkable woman and one of the greatest singers of her generation, Kathy was one of our own. KATHY is supported by Arts Council England and Vision, Redbridge Culture and Leisure.
